The easiest way to check is with a magnet: real 1943 copper pennies are not magnetic, while common steel ones are. However, due to rampant counterfeiting, authenticating a 1943 copper cent requires professional grading and verification. If you suspect you have one, we recommend submitting it to PCGS or NGC.
