No Lincoln Wheat Pennies were made from silver, but there are a few notable exceptions to their usual bronze or steel compositions. During World War II, in 1943, the U.S. Mint temporarily used zinc-coated steel due to copper shortages. Transitional errors like 1944 steel cents or 1943 bronze cents are extremely rare and valuable.
