BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) refers to a coin or bar that has never been in circulation, retaining its original mint luster. While these items are not proof coins, they are expected to be in near-perfect condition with minimal marks from the minting process. BU does not mean damaged or heavily handled, but slight imperfections from minting or packaging may be present.
